Inspiration

Surinam. It whispers from the depths of my memory, an emerald sanctuary for the senses. As a young epidemiologist, one of the first World Health Organization volunteers to venture deep into the roadless interior, I found myself on a bustling riverbank south of Brokopondo. Local vendors loaded dugout motorboats with a symphony of scents: passionfruit's sweet and sulfuric note, earthy coconuts, sharp guava, and than the unexpected tang of gasoline as it filled our tank. These became the spontaneus first notes in the complex composition that is the extrait de parfum: Surinam Vert.

I boarded the boat, laden with supplies for our months-long journey into the heart of the jungle. The outboard motor's hum was a counterpoint to the rhythmic slap of water against the hull as we ventured deeper into the verdant unknown. Hours later, the jungle's intricate tapestry unfolded. Delicate orchids released their heady perfume, mingling with the creamy fragrance of jungle magnolias and the languid sweetness of frangipani. Honey, crafted in some hidden apiary, hung heavy in the air.

The vibrant blue sky darkened as a storm approached, unleashing a torrent of rain that sizzled against sun-heated boulders peppering the waters surface. The river swelled, tossing up a baptism of wild rain and mineral-rich river water. In this torrent, the jungle exhaled its musky breath – the very essence of petrichor, the scent of rain on scorched earth.

As the storm subsided, sun pierced the emerald canopy once more, and dappled the awakened jungle with fragmented light. A hidden jaguar watched with curious eyes flashing from the darkness of its leafy cover and in that moment, this perfume was born – a verdant tapestry capturing the humid breath of the rainforest, the intoxicating symphony of exotic blooms, and the raw essence of untamed Surinam.

This fragrance is my exploration, and my adventure as a very young man, distilled from memory. I now bring it to you as an invitation to experience the journey through scent.
